Installing ubuntu budgie on Ubuntu 16.04 16.10

Budgie Desktop developed by Solus project (Developer of Solus Linux) is hottest desktop of year 2017 thats why Ubuntu Budgie now is an official Ubuntu flavor. If you are using ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10 and willing to try then this tutorial is for you.

About Ubuntu Budgie

As per Distrowatch “Ubuntu Budgie (previously budgie-remix) is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Budgie desktop, originally developed by the Solus project. Written from scratch and integrating tightly with GNOME stack, Budgie focuses on simplicity and elegance, while also offering useful features, such as the Raven notification and customisation centre”.

Install Budgie Desktop in Ubuntu 16.04,16.10

Budgie Remix Team has an official PPA repository. So far Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, and their derivatives are supported. So, First step is to add repository, open terminal and run command given below(Remember its require root password)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:budgie-remix/ppa

After adding repository update and install the desktop using commnad given below one by one.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install budgie-desktop-environment

Once installed logout and login selecting budgie desktop.

Removing Budgie Desktop

First log out Budgie Desktop and login using Ubuntu.Then Open Terminal and run command given below :

sudo apt remove budgie-desktop-environment budgie-desktop && sudo apt autoremove
